Unless we are undertaking major improvements or renovation, homeowners are generally locked into one source (or combination of sources) of energy or another and into one means of delivering heating. The source could be gas, electricitiy, oil or solid fuel. The delivery could be central heating radiators, ducted warm air, underfloor heating or open fires.
We can make the conversion of energy to heat more efficient, for example condensing boilers We can use more efficient means of distributing heat eg underfloor heating. We can diversify our sources of heat eg wood burning stove, a multi-fuel stove or using biomass as a back up to our existing heating systems.
We can generate heat on site for example by ground source heat pumps which are best linked to underfloor heating.
